When we were called about a customer’s deck that had developed a couple of soft spots, our team at Home Team Pro knew just what to do. We conducted a thorough evaluation, suggesting a deck replacement and joist repair as the best way forward. A closer look revealed that the deck, which was initially built with 2×6 decking, was rotting away and the joists were in worse shape than first thought. The customer, choosing to replace it with long, full-length Menards thick decking boards, was pleased with the plan. We also decided to treat all cuts with a copper solution and added butyl tape to the top of joists to extend their lifespan. We ended up replacing 9 deck joists.
